2006 Pro Day Individual Work outs
We'll update this page as reports come in from pro day work outs.
April 2, 2006
150 representatives from every NFL team attended USC's pro day. Reggie Bush solidified his first pick status with an excellent showing. He ran his 40-yard dash in 4.33, had a 10-foot-9 long jump, and 40˝-inch vertical jump. Fellow USC back, LenDale White, wasn't nearly as impressive. White weighed in heavy at 244 lbs and only managed 15 reps on the 225 bench. He didn't run a 40-yard dash and has yet to run for scouts after also skipping the 40 during the combine. Darnell Bing ran a little slower then expected, running a 4.63 and a 4.53 40-yard.
March 24, 2006
(4:30pm) DeAngelo Williams had an impressive workout today. He ran his 40-yard dash in 4.40 seconds (with the wind) and 4.48 (against). He ran the short shuttle in 4.10, the three-cone drill in 6.57 and the long shuttle in 10.61. Also, he had a 34˝-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-9 broad jump. He showed good hands and caught the ball well during drills.
A good workout for Williams, as he showed his quickness and a better 40-time then expected. This should solidify his spot as the number two running back prospect behind Bush. He still might fall farther then he should on draft day, since this is a deep draft and few teams with top picks are looking to draft running backs.
(2:30pm) Reserve defensive back Kevin Hobbs impressed at Auburn's pro day. He ran a 40-yard dash in 4.34 seconds and had an 11-foot, 1-inch broad jump. Wide receiver Ben Obomanu posted a 41-inch vertical jump, finished a 40-yard dash in 4.37 seconds, and had several nice catches. Defensive end Stanley McClover ran a 4.68-second time in the 40-yard dash. Auburn's top NFL prospect, offensive lineman Marcus McNeill, didn't do much during the workout. He ran shuttles, but otherwise was happy with his combine numbers and didn't feel like he need to show much.
Georgia's pro day was attented by scouts from every NFL team. D.J. Shockley only participated in passing drills. Wide receiver Bryan McClendon ran 4.53 40-yard dash and had a vertical jump of 32 inches. Greg Blue, DeMario Minter and Tyson Browning also ran in the 4.5 range. Max Jean-Gilles did 24 reps of the 225 bench press.
March 23, 2006
(6:00pm)
Minnesota RB Laurence Maroney held a private workout for scouts today. Maroney didn't participate in Minnesota's pro day due to a strained hamstring. Today, he ran a 4.49 40-yard dash and measured in at 6' 1/8" and 215 lbs. He did not run the shuttles or the three-cone drill. He had a 35˝-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot-3 broad jump and 21 reps of the 225 bench press.
A fairly solid workout, however the 40-time is a little slower then some expected. Maroney is battling LenDale White and DeAngelo Williams to be the second running back selected after Reggie Bush. White, Williams, and Bush all skipped the 40 at the combine and have yet to have their pro day, so it will be interesting to see where Maroney's time ranks against the other top backs.
(2:00am) While some are praising Vince Young's pro day work out, others have been more critical. Young seemed unprepared and wasn't even going to run the 40-yard dash until receiving complaints from NFL personnel in attendance. His 4.57 was slower then most expected and below five other QBs 40s at the combine. Scouts noted that Young didn't even attempt any difficult throws and waited till after his receivers made a break to release the ball. When asked to compare Young's workout to Cutler's, one scout said "There was no comparison. Cutler made all the throws in tough conditions while Young limited his range of throws and he was indoors."
March 22, 2006
(2:00pm) NFL.com reports Vince Young ran the 40 in 4.57. He didn't do the vertical or long jumps. 150 NFL personnel representing 31 NFL teams watched the workouts. During Young's throwing drill he threw from under center as opposed to out of the shotgun. He showed good arm strength, a quick delivery and accuracy during his 40-minute workout.
(1:00am) Later today, Vince Young will work out during his pro day at Texas. Young's stock is sliding after not working out at the combine and scoring extremely low on the wonderlic intelligence test. Many scouts now feel Young has fallen below Jay Cutler and Matt Leinart and is now the number three quarterback prospect. Young will need a strong performance to quite the doubters.
D'Brickashaw Ferguson was the main attraction during Virginia's pro day. With 25 scouts, GMs, and coaches watching, Ferguson had 26 repetitions on the 225 bench press and ran the 40-yard dash in 5.09. Ferguson is expected to be a top five pick on draft day, perhaps as high as number two by the Saints.
Quarterback Marques Hagans ran a 4.56 and 4.53 40-yard dash. Virginia coach Al Groh thinks Hagans versatility will be valuable in the NFL. "How many guys can say that during the course of their careers they returned punts, were the personal protector on the punt team, covered kickoffs, caught passes out of the backfield, caught passes as a wide receiver, threw the ball and ran with it. And did it all very well," Groh said of his former signal caller. "That says a lot about his versatility and his competitiveness and his willingness to do whatever it takes. Those are all desirable attributes for NFL teams. Then when you combine that with his locker room presence and his positive attitude, he has a lot of value."
March 21, 2006
Representatives from all 32 NFL teams attended North Carolina's pro day, Twelve players participated, including safety Mahlon Carey, fullback Rikki Cook, defensive end Tommy Davis, cornerback Cedrick Holt, linebacker Jeff Longhany, wide receiver Derrele Mitchell, defensive tackle Chase Page, wide receiver Jarwarski Pollock, offensive lineman Kyle Ralph, linebacker Tommy Richardson, defensive back Linwood Williams and wide receiver Wallace Wright. Tommy Davis benched 225 pounds a team-high 34 times. Cedrick Holt and Jarwarski Pollock each ran the 40-yard dash under 4.4.
March 19, 2006
25 NFL scouts attended Colorado's pro day. Quarterback Joel Klatt was smooth and sharp, throwing the ball with accuracy and velocity and earning praise from the scouts running the drills. He ran the 40 in 4.77, and his vertical leap was 31 inches. Lawrence Vickers ran a 4.75 40-yard dash. Tight end Joe Klopfenstein posted a 4.55.
Some notable pro day 40-yard dash times as reported by NFL.com; Demetrius Williams 4.46, Spencer Havner 4.62, Jarrad Page 4.51, Ernie Sims 4.48, DeMeco Ryans 4.66.
March 18, 2006
Jay Cutler impressed scouts at Vanderbilt's pro day. Cutler worked out with receivers Erik Davis, Marlon White, and Dustin Dunning. His throws were accurate and once again he displayed incredible arm strength. Cutler is expected to be a top ten pick on draft day.
The Tennessee Titans, who have the third overall pick, sent general manager Floyd Reese, offensive coordinator Norm Chow and quarterbacks coach Craig Johnson to watch Cutler workout. "He threw the ball well. I think you saw a variety of things. He threw the ball on the run and under a little bit less than ideal conditions," Reese said. "He came today and performed, and I can't imagine too many quarterbacks performing better than he did today."
March 17, 2006
Cornerback Antonio Cromartie was impressive during Florida State's pro day. Cromartie ran times of 4.36 and 4.41 seconds in the 40-yard dash and had a a 42-inch vertical jump. 100 scouts and five NFL head coaches in attendance; Sean Payton, Tom Coughlin, Romeo Crennel, Lovie Smith and Scott Linehan. Meyer threw for 4,003 yards and 30 touchdowns as a senior and is projected to be a late-round pick. Middle linebacker Joey Cwik and cornerbacks Isaiah Trufant and Jesse Hendrix also worked out. Trufant, whose brother Marcus plays for the Seattle Seahawks, ran a 4.31 time in the 40-yard dash. Hendrix ran the 40 in 4.41. Both are undersized, Trufant at 5-foot-7-inches, 160 pounds, and Hendrix at 5-foot-9-inches, 165 pounds.

March 10, 2006
(11:00pm) Representatives from 11 NFL teams were present at Akron's pro day; including the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants, and the San Diego Chargers. Most were there to see wide receiver Domenik Hixon. Hixon ranks No. 2 on the Akron career receptions list (141) and third on the career receiving yards (2,092). He impressed scouts with his speed and athleticism and posted the fastest time of the day in the 40-yard dash, 4.36.
(4:00pm) 38 scouts representing 28 NFL teams attended Clemson's pro day. Seattle, St. Louis, Detroit and Minnesota were the only teams not in attendence. Bobby Carpenter ran the 40-yard dash in the high-4.5 to low-4.6-second range. A.J. Hawk clocked in the 4.38-4.40 range for his 40.
(2:00 pm)
More than 20 NFL scouts attented BYU's pro day. The following players worked out - running back Fahu Tahi; defensive linemen Manaia Brown, Vince Feula, Justin Maddux, Daniel Marquardt and T.J. Sitake; wide receivers Todd Watkins and Michael Morris; defensive backs Nate Soelberg, O'Neil Howell and Spencer White; and offensive lineman Lance Reynolds Jr. Watkins, BYU's top prospect, didn't run the 40 after posting a good time, 4.41, at the combine
More Wisconsin pro day news. Scouts from 10 NFL teams were on hand; including the Packers, Lions, and Bears.
(1:00 am) Some more news out of Wisconsin's pro day, wide receiver Jonathan Orr turned in a 4.24 40-yard dash. A full 2-tenths of a second faster then his 4.44 at the combine. It must be an awful fast track at Winconsin as earlier in the day we reported running back Brian Calhoun posted a 4.38 40. A little over 2-tenths of a second faster then his combine time of 4.62. Orr's time certainly makes Calhouns time a little less impressive. It's obvious that the Wisconsin track is faster then the combine track in Indy.
SoonerSports.com has a full break down of the stats from yesterday's pro day at Oklahoma. Cornerback Eric Bassey really stood out; posting a 4.33 40-yard dash, 37.5 inch vertical jump, a 3.92 short shuttle, 7.07 on the three cone drill, and 17 Reps at 225 lbs.
March 8, 2006
(11:00pm)
NFL.com has some notes from Notre Dame's pro day. In a bit of a surprise, Maurice Stovall chose to run the 40-yard dash. He posted solid times of 4.54 and 4.57 seconds. Tight end Anthony Fasano ran the 40 in 4.74 and 4.71 seconds.
(7:30pm) As expected Chad Jackson didn't run during Florida's pro day. He did everything else and impressed NFL personnel. "I thought he performed very well," Jaguars receivers coach Steve Walters said. "He performed just like we all thought he would. He ran his routes well, he catches the ball well, he's got a lot of potential. He's got a chance to be a real good player in the National Football League."
Other Gators who worked out; Linebacker Todd McCullough, safety Jarvis Herring, defensive lineman Jeremy Mincey, offensive linemen Lance Butler, Mike Degory and Randy Hand, and cornerbacks Vernell Brown and Dee Webb. Webb improved on his 40-yard dash time from the combine, running it in 4.38 seconds and 4.31 seconds.
(3:00pm) Wisconsin running back Brian Calhoun ran the 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds at Wisconsin's pro day. Calhoun had his stock drop after a disappointing 40 at the combine of 4.62.
(12:00pm) Twelve NFL scouts were on hand to watch Western Michigan's pro day. Receiver Greg Jennings continued to impress scouts with his route running and solid hands. He didn't run the 40-yard dash. At the combine he posted a 4.41 40 time. The 5-11 receiver should be a third round pick. Tony Scheffler also performed receiving drills and didn't run the 40. He posted a 4.54 40 at the combine, which was second among tight ends.
(1:00am) More big prospects are hitting the field today with BYU, Florida, Lane, Nebraska, Nevada-Las Vegas, Notre Dame, and Wisconsin-Madison holding pro days. It's unlikely that wide receivers Chad Jackson and Maurice Stovall will run, however they should perform receiving drills. Both players had excellent combines. Look for Jackson to be selected in the first round and Stoval is a 2nd or 3rd round prospect.
Representatives from 15 NFL teams attended Indiana's pro day. Victor Adeyanju is the top prospect from Indiana. Adeyanju has learned from the physical and mental tests of draft preparation. "This has taught me the importance of putting forth your best effort every day and utilizing the techniques and schemes that the coaches give you."

(2:00am) Minnesota, Montana, Northwest Missouri State, Richmond, and Utah will all hold workouts later today. Minnesota's will attract the most attention as everyone will be watching running back Laurence Maroney. Maroney, a probable first round pick, didn't workout at the combine. He will need to impress during drills and the 40-yard dash to keep his lofty draft status.
(1:00am) 24 NFL scouts were on hand to watch Texas A&M's pro day. Wide receiver Jason Carter ran a 4.6 40-yard dash. Offensive lineman Aldo DeLa Garza

Offensive tackle Eric Winston and receiver Sinorice Moss didn't run after posting strong times at the combine. Winston, participated in position drills, posted a 34-inch vertical jump and bench pressed 225 pounds 22 times. Moss participated in positional and punt return drills and had a 42-inch vertical jump.

(4:00pm) Florida International's pro day attracted 19 NFL scouts and personnel. Among those who made an impression were offensive lineman Victor Cernius, defensive back Nick Turnbull and receiver Cory McKinney. Cernius had a 34-inch vertical leap, a nine-foot long jump and a time of 4.98 seconds in the 40-yard dash. Turnbull was the talk of the workout. ''The kid has great athletic ability, great size and great hands,'' one AFC scout said. McKinney ran a 4.47 40.
(1:00am) Now the pro day workouts start to get interesting. Today, Miami (Fla.) and Texas A&M will hold their pro day workouts. Top prospects Sinorice Moss, Eric Winston, and Reggie McNeal are expected to workout.
March 3, 2006

Brad Smith ran the 40-yard dash in 4.44 seconds, the short shuttle in 4.13 seconds, and the 3-cone drill in 6.50 seconds. Smith isn't sure what position he'll play in the NFL. “I’ll play at any position I get drafted to play,” Smith said. “But I still believe I can be a great NFL QB. Today went well for me, so we’ll see what happens.”
An unknown who caught the scouts’ eye was Tarrence Rhodes, a cornerback out of Missouri Valley. At 6'2" he ran a 4.36 in the 40-yard dash.
(1:00pm)
Omar Jacobs worked out in front of NFL personnel representing 12 teams during Bowling Green's pro day. The Dolphins, Giants, Jets, Seahawks, Texans, Buccaneers, Bengals, Jaguars, Browns and Colts were among the teams with representatives watching the work out. Jacobs said a few coaches told him he was good at the combine but "even better" here. Jacobs preferred the workout at Bowling Green with his former teammates over the combine. "I'm just more comfortable with those guys because you know what kind of hands they have and what speed they have coming out of their routes," Jacobs said. "I'm also more comfortable in my own place."
(12:30am)
The following schools will hold workouts today; Florida International, Louisiana-Lafayette, North Dakota State, SE Louisiana, Sam Houston State, South Dakota State. The workouts will become more interesting tomorrow when Miami (Fl) and Texas A&M hold their workouts.

March 2, 2006
(1:30pm)
Bruce Gradkowski will not workout at the Toledo pro day. Instead he will attend the University of Pittsburgh's pro day on March 18th. The NFL now allows players to attend any pro day in a state where they live, provided the college where the pro day is held approves.
Daryn Colledge is looking forward to today's pro day workout at Boise St. He thinks he'll perform better then he did at the combine and said it was difficult performing the drills with the pressure and little sleep he was able to get. "The whole idea is the process," he said. "You've got to deal with the pressure of not getting enough sleep and not eating well. It's a chance for the NFL to see how you react to things when they aren't the best."
At the combine Colledge ran a 5.04 40-yard dash, had 21 reps of the 225 bench, and 32.5 inch vertical leap. He plans to do better on all these numbers. "I'll have the opportunity to take longer rests between drills," Colledge said of the difference between the combine and Pro Day. "There's only eight of us there and we want to have to perform before every single coach in the NFL.
Colledge said the teams who gave him a lot of attention in Indianapolis were the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Green Bay Packers, Denver Broncos, Washington Redskins, New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons.
(1:00am) The combine may be over, but the workouts continue. Most major colleges invite scouts and NFL personnel to watch their players work out in what is called a Pro Day. Players perform many of the same drills that were done at the combine. For some this is a second chance to show scouts what they can do, for other who weren't invited to the combine or chose not work out during the combine this is their only chance to make an impression.
Later today Ball State, Boise State, Florida Atlantic, Linfield College, Maine, Missouri, Northwestern, and Toledo will hold their pro day workouts. Top prospects expected to work out include; Omar Jacobs, Bruce Gradkowski, and Daryn Colledge
