Max Jean-Gilles OG 6'3 355 Georgia
By: Robert Davis
Max Jean-Gilles has been a rock on the Georgia line for the past three years, but has taken his play up a notch this year. He's one of the top college lineman in the entire country. As a sophomore and junior he was named All SEC, and will certainly be again this year. He will also garner All American consideration.
Jean-Gilles is a mammoth guard prospect. He is so big and strong that once he locks on to you, you're out of the play. He looks to destroy the man in front of him in running situations and usually wins out. He's just an awesome run blocker. He also shows the ability to get out and block on the move. He's not just a straight ahead run blocker. He may bring some versatility to an offensive line, as his experience at UGA is at tackle, but he is a perfect guard at the next level.
It's not just because run blocking is his strength that he's better suited at tackle; it's his lack of standout agility. It's good for a guard, but average for a tackle. So a move inside to guard is inevitable. Jean-Gilles also needs to watch his weight. He has the tendency to get a little heavy and it slows down his mobility even more. He checked in at 355 at the combine, which is over his normal playing weight of 340.
Aside from weight issues, Jean-Gilles is as good a guard prospect as you will find. He's solid all around but can really dominate in the running game. Since guards are not put at a premium, cracking the first round may be difficult. Along with him having potential weight issues, Jean-Gilles probably is looking at a second round selection.
