Demetrius Williams WR 6’1 188 Oregon

Demetrius Williams never lost a game his entire career in high school playing for the famed Concord De La Salle program that won a remarkable 151 games in a row. He took his talent to Eugene and burst on to the national scene as a sophomore. He racked up 51 catches for 935 yards and 8 touchdowns. As a junior, he took a step back. He still caught 47 balls, but his yardage dropped to 593, and he only had two touchdowns. Williams bounced back, and had an excellent season. On the year he had a career high 59 catches for 1,059 yards and eight touchdowns.

Williams is a very well rounded wide receiver. He’s tall, athletic, and is quick. On the field, he can make the tough grab or turn the easy one into a big gain. He knows how to get open, and he displays very good hands. He will not drop too many passes thrown his way. Demetrius is tough and will go over the middle. He played the 2004 season with toe and hammy injuries, which limited his effectiveness as a big play receiver.

While he can make big plays, he does not have great speed. It is not a liability, but it could cause some matchup problems at the next level. Williams could also stand to add about 10lbs. at the next level because he does have a slight frame. In order for him to go over the middle consistently, he will need to bulk up.

Demetrius Williams looks like a very good #2 wide receiver prospect. He probably doesn’t have the talent to develop into a goto receiver, but he is a player you can count on to make plays. The 2006 receiver class lacks a true superstar, so Williams has as much pro potential as any of them. Depending on what he runs during workouts, he could go as high as the second round.
