Kelly Jennings CB 5'11 178 Miami

Kelly Jennings has developed very well over his career at Miami. His first two seasons he made in impact as a reserve corner, totalling 43 tackles, 12 pass break ups and an interception. He began to put it together his junior season, finishing the year with 40 tackles, two for loss to go with two picks, and five passes broken up. Jennings' numbers dipped a bit as a senior, but he was not tested as often. He finished with 32 tackles, three for loss, a sack and three interceptions.

Jennings is an excellent cover corner. He has the speed, quickness, and athleticism to cover any receiver down the field. He mirrors receivers with ease in and out of their breaks. Jennings also shows good ball skills. He can break on the ball and knock it away or intercept it. With his experience, Jennings should be able to contribute in a nickel role immediately.

The only problem with Jennings stems from his lack of bulk. Bigger and stronger receivers can physically overpower him to make the play. He cannot jam players off the line and has to rely on his cover ability in space, which could lead to big plays. It also hinders his ability to support the run because he cannot get off blocks and power backs can run through him.

If Jennings can show the ability to add weight and get stronger while maintaining his agility, he could be an excellent NFL corner. As a pure cover man, he is up there with anyone else in the draft. After running a sub 4.4 and testing out well at the combine, Jennings is a corner rising on many boards. He has the ability to crack the first round, but will most likely land in the second round.
