Playing with guys like Mario Williams and Manny Lawson does not help you make a name for yourself, but John McCargo did while he was a member of the Wolfpack. As a freshman he made an immediate impact with 52 tackles, 14 for loss, and a career high three sacks. As a junior he posted 47/5 on the year. As a junior he missed five games with a broken foot, but still managed to be in on 24 tackles, nine for loss, and notched half a sack on the year.

McCargo's game is based on penetration. He gets a tremendous intial burst and beats his man to the hole. Along with his quick first step, his quick hands and strength allow him to maintain his momentum into the backfield. He has started for three seasons and has been a consistent force in the opponents backfield.

If he does not beat his man off the snap, McCargo can be neutralized. His lack of interior moves and lack of size allows bigger guards to take him out of the play. He also lacks the speed to finish off plays. He is consistently in the backfield, but still only managed 3.5 career sacks.

McCargo was a part of college footballs most talented front, teaming with two first rounders in this draft in Manny Lawson and Mario Williams. Teams looking for a penetrating tackle will value McCargo very high, but he may not fit every team. He could hear his name called in the middle part of the second round, but could fall to the end of Day One, depending on when a run on DT's starts.
