Joe Klopfenstein TE 6'6 255 Colorado
By: Robert Davis
Klopfenstein has been very steady during his stay in Boulder. As a sophomore he caught 20 passes for 190 yards and four touchdowns. He had his number called more often as a junior, catching 33 passes for 418 yards and five touchdowns. This year as a senior, Klopfenstein again caught 33 balls for a career high 468 yards and four touchdowns.
Klopfenstein is a fantastic receiver for a tight end, and should be a major weapon in the NFL. He has excellent size at 6'6 255, but combines that with excellent athleticism and very good speed. He moves well down the field in his routes, and uses his size to his advantage to go get the ball. He also shows very good hands. Klopfenstein still appears to have some room to grow as well, as he is a lean 255.
Even though he has great size, Klopfenstein will need to get stronger. He does not hold up at the point of attack well and can be pushed aside in run blocking. He also needs to stay low off the line because his height allows defenders to get leverage on him and render him ineffective in blocking at the snap.
Klopfenstein at this point is one dimensional, but he has the potential to be a better blocker. His receiving ability is what teams covet however, and he will be in demand on draft day. This TE class is very deep, and it pushes him down some, but Klopfenstein could still hear his name called near the end of the second round.
