Freddie Roach LB 6’2 255 Alabama
By: Robert Davis
Freddie Roach teams with DeMeco Ryans to form one of the best linebacker duos in the SEC. He was named to everyone’s freshman All American lists in 2002, after he a season in which he tallied 63 tackles, 6 for loss, and a sack. Roach had a standout sophomore season, finishing with 85 tackles, 7 for loss, with a sack. He took a step back as a junior, but still managed to finish the year with 57 tackles, 9 for loss, and two sacks. Roach closed out his career with 66 tackles, three for loss, to go along with nine pass break ups.
Roach is a very instinctive football player. He is always around the ball and always looking to hit someone. He loves to play physical and mix it up near the line of scrimmage. He has the strength to match his style and fight off blockers to make plays. Roach is a very experienced and versatile performer for the Crimson Tide. He’s started since his freshman year and has experience at both inside and outside linebacker.
He has the size and instincts to play at the next level, but Roach does not have any standout movement skills. His closing speed is only average, and he does not have great change of direction skills.
Freddie Roach is a tough football player. He has the size, the attitude, and the makeup to play on Sundays. He may not have ideal athleticism, but his intelligence makes up for it. He probably will not be a game changing player, but he is the type of player that will show up every week and give you the effort needed to win ball games. Roach probably will not be taken before the 5th round.
